What to Do After College:
The Emotional Challenges
and How to Overcome Them

by www.Sedona.com

Moving from the college environment to the “real world” is a big emotional jump. There are first-time apartments, bills to pay, grocery stores to conquer and meals to prepare. There’s graduate school to think about, and full-time jobs, not to mention getting past the fact that you’re now, officially, an adult.

It goes without saying that this transition can be stressful. Where you once had a set routine (school would start up again in the fall and end each summer) and plenty of free time (especially if you figured out how to schedule all of your classes on three days of the week), now you have to really grow up and make some life-changing decisions.

Then again, suddenly the world is your oyster. And which direction you choose to go in is now completely in your hands. Far from stressful, this can be invigorating and feel like the epitome of what living life is all about.

In other words, transitioning from college to the real world can be stressful and daunting, or it can be blissful and exhilarating. Which one all depends on you.

“Remember the real world is still your world,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of Sedona Training Associates. “In other words, what you experience is a reflection of what you hold in mind. Because of this you have the ability to make your experience of the world any way you choose.”

How to “Choose” to Have a Great Life After College

The key to starting life in the real world off on the right foot is to hold in your mind exactly the life you want. Don’t just imagine that life, or wish you had it. Act as though it’s already a reality.

As you do this, the life in your mind WILL become your reality because you will be readily attracting that energy into your life.

So whether you dream of being an advertising exec, a teacher, or an organic farmer, act -- and feel -- the part. Or if you dream of moving to a new city, or a new country, get to work on the details. This will naturally attract into your life the networking opportunities and other steps that need to occur for your dreams to become your reality.

Of course, there’s also something to be said for enjoying your life that is here, right now.

“You can choose to resist and suffer through or you can let go, welcome and embrace what is -- and therefore inwardly thrive and externally prosper,” Dwoskin says. “If resistance, frustration, fear or any other feeling does arise, remember that these are just feelings. They are not facts and they are not you -- and you can let them go.”

In fact, anytime you start to doubt yourself, worry about your future, or get stressed about your newfound responsibilities, just let them go.

Letting go is a technique of The Sedona Method, and the more you do it, the more you will:

  • Start making better decisions
  • Be more in control of your life
  • Have better relationships
  • Have your life improve significantly

So if you are a new graduate, learning The Sedona Method is your key to gaining the life you’ve always wanted. As you let go of your self-limiting beliefs and negative expectations all that’s left are your dreams, and for those the sky is the limit.
