Business Productivity, Relationships

and How to Overcome Being Too Impatient

Do you find yourself tapping your foot whenever you’re waiting to check out at the grocery store? Anxiously counting down the seconds until the stoplight turns green? Constantly hurrying your family or finding that no one ever seems to complete tasks fast enough for you at work?

You may be struggling with impatience: a constant eagerness to get things done that borderlines on irritation.

The thing about impatience is that, by its very nature, it is fraught with anxiety, haste, intolerance and even annoyance. You are constantly in a state of “hurry up,” either to yourself or to those around you.

On an internal level, being impatient means that you are completely avoiding the here and now, says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates.

“When we feel impatient we are not dealing with what is, but with what might be,” he says. “We miss the moment, which is the only time we can actually do anything about anyway.”

On an external level, impatience sends waves of intolerance to those around you. Rather than being perceived as a team player at work, for instance, you may be thought of as annoying or domineering. With friends, your constant rushing may ruin a laidback Saturday, and even among family impatience can bring on resistance and restraint rather than openness and love.

How to be Productive Without Being Too Impatient

Dwoskin points out that being impatient is neither bad nor good, it is just a feeling. However, by letting go of your feelings of haste and impatience you will actually find that you can get more done, strengthen your relationships and even gain more business productivity.

The way to do this is to simply release the feeling of being impatient or of having to get things done quickly. This is easy to do with The Sedona Method, a scientifically proven tool that will actually tap into your inherent ability to do so.

You don’t need to worry about how to become more patient, simply let go of your feelings of impatience.

“The goal is not to be more patient,” Dwoskin says, “because even patience implies waiting. The goal is to let go and do what you do when you are doing it, and not do what you are not doing when you are not doing it.”

In other words, when you begin to release with The Sedona Method, you will be able to live in the moment, enjoying each moment as it comes, and not worrying about what needs to get done soon.

Finally, to really increase your productivity while maintaining an amazing sense of well-being and calm, forget about when things need to get done altogether!

“Approach and accomplish each task as quickly as appropriate while letting go and cultivating the attitude that you have all the time in the world,” says Dwoskin.
