Something to Prove?
Why are You Out to Prove It?

An Important Self-Meditation

by www.Sedona.com

No matter what stage of life you’re in – whether you’ve just taken a new job, become a parent, reached middle age or retired – you may be secretly living your life for those around you. How? By constantly feeling like you have something to prove.

I am a success. I am wealthy. I am a good parent. I am powerful. I am still fit. The possibilities are endless. The problem is that, unlike setting a goal and striving to achieve it, setting out to prove something stems from a negative feeling in your subconscious: doubt.

“The only time you feel you need to prove anything is when you are in doubt,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates.

This feeling of doubt drives you to need approval from those around you in order to believe in your own self-worth.  And your method of gaining approval is to prove your worthiness to everyone in your life.

What are YOU Trying to Prove?

You may not immediately recognize what it is that you’re trying to prove, but most of us are focused on at least a couple of things at any given time. Here are some things that may be an issue in your life:

• Things that are important in your life (your kids, your house, your job)
• Things you feel you don’t have control over (or could lose control over)
• Things that could change your way of life (such as your health, your marriage, your finances)

Most often, we feel we must prove things that would scare us to death if we lost them. Things like, “I am the best at my job,” “I am a good wife/husband,” “I am beautiful.” The problem with setting out to prove something is that just the very act of doing so fans the underlying flame of your doubt.

“Proving your worth or your success often reinforces the doubt, no matter how much evidence you have amassed to the contrary,” Dwoskin says.

It’s important to examine whatever it is you are out to prove and determine if it’s coming from a healthy place. Often, if not always, you’ll discover that your need to prove is, in fact, based on fear – fear that you are not meeting the expectations of those in your life.

How to “Prove Something” Without Feeling Like You Have Something to Prove

While proving things to yourself or anyone else only acknowledges your self-doubt, setting goals allows you to make a statement from a positive place of self-confidence.

“Rather than trying to prove anything to yourself or anyone else, simply allow yourself to set and achieve goals based on the feeling of “I can,” and then release all the doubt,” Dwoskin says.

Releasing doubt in yourself is simple when you learn The Sedona Method. It’s a scientifically proven tool that shows you how to let go of negative feelings that are holding you back in life. Releasing doubt and fear is something that you’ll learn to do anytime and anywhere, and once you do it you’ll experience a natural confidence.

“By doing this you will know you are enough and are a success,” Dwoskin says. “You will not need to prove anything else.”
