How the Sedona Method Helps You in Challenging Financial Times
How to Make “Wasted Energy” a Thing of the Past
by www.Sedona.com
More than time or money, energy is your most precious resource. Without it you can’t make use of your time and you can’t earn, or even spend, money. Yet, unlike our time and money, most of us expend our energy way too freely.
Case in point, how many people in your life are dreaded energy vampires who suck the life right out of you every time you’re near them? Or how many times do you allow yourself to be drawn into conversations, only to then say to yourself “Now there’s an hour I’ll never get back”?
Those people or situations in your life that leave you feeling drained, those are obvious examples of wasted energy, and it’s in your best interest to cut those situations out of your life. But not all of them are so cut-and-dry.
In fact, much wasted energy occurs on the unconscious level and is a direct result of suppressing or limiting your emotions.
“Suppression of and belief in your limiting emotions and beliefs costs you on many levels,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates. “The more you hold on to and believe in the stories your emotions tell you the less likely you are to be happy and successful.”
Holding on to Negative Emotions Wastes Your Energy
We all have a finite amount of energy to expend each day, and there’s a good chance that a portion of yours is being unnecessarily wasted on negativity.
Anytime you stew over a past argument, replay scenes from a painful time in your life in your head or give in to unsettling mind chatter of any kind, you are wasting precious energy -- and doing yourself an extreme disservice.
In one study by researchers at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, women who suppressed feelings of anger after watching emotionally charged film clips ended up feeling even more angry. And a report published in Current Directions in Psychological Science even found that emotional suppression has serious consequences for your brain.
The report reviewed studies that link “expressive suppression,” which involves concealing your outward signs of emotion, with declines in:
- Memory
- Communication
- Problem solving
So, clearly, if you are wasting your energy on any type of emotional conflict, anxiety, fear or pain, it will take a toll on your life.
“The ‘now’ is the only time we can do anything about anything, and one of the things that distracts us the most from following through with positive action and behaviors is believing the lies our negative emotions tell us -- and letting them run our lives and state of mind,” Dwoskin says. “This costs billions of dollars a year in lost productivity and absenteeism as well as treatment for stress or unhappiness-induced illness.”
On the other hand, if you are able to use every bit of your energy on positive matters -- furthering your career, spending time with your family, solidifying your personal relationships -- the sky is the limit to what you can accomplish.
Now is the time to learn how to let go of your negative emotions and take back your precious energy. What will YOU do with yours?
